I grew up on a farm in close proximity to both my grandparents' farms in the Pembina Valley region of Manitoba. Lots of rolling hills, great for sledding, and plenty of frozen ponds for pond hockey. Once winter hit at the grandparent's farm, we'd often beg to go out to the pond to skate, to the pasture to sled down the steepest hills we could find, or to have “Spot” the horse takes us on a sleigh ride around the farm.

I have a lot of very early memories of pushing a chair on a pond-learning how to skate, of trudging up hills with my sled until exhausted, and the sound of the bells on the horse and sleigh as we meandered around the snowy pasture.

This holiday season is definitely going to be a tough one on us all, and wishing everyone good physical and mental health in the months ahead. Cheers!
